Default Oil Pressure

What is considered acceptable oil pressure for a 1971 350/270HP motor.
I am using a syntetic blend oil 10w30 Quaker state oil.
At idle I am around 10-15 on Gauge at cruise it is around 30-35 when Getting on it it is well over 35 but not up to 70.
Are these acceptable and if not what should I be looking for.
I have added and additonal breather to valve cover will that drop pressure readings? :seeya :chevy :_dupe:

Seems a little low...I have heard that 10psi per 100 hp is what you want...someone with a more techinical answer can chime in though.

I get 30-70 range for mine.

I think at temperature the oil pressure should be about 40 psi at 2000 rpm. At idle I have heard that all you need is about 2 psi per 100 rpm.

if it is "well over 35" it is fine.

I bury the gauge at redline. Don't want to start another oil pressure debate. But I think running a hi-po oil pump is a good idea.

I was running 40 wt. last year and was at 35 psi constantly in my 383, switched to 30 st and it dropped to 10 psi. Checking the pump and going back to 40 or 50 wt.

Thanks to all the replied. I think I will switch oil for summer to 10W40 or 20W 50 and see what pressure is.

Also, check your line and fitting where it screws into the top of the block. Even a small leak can affect the pressure being sent to the gauge. The gauge itself may be due for a cleaning/rebuild. I had both problems on a '72. You could hook up an aftermarket gauge by the engine to check it out.

10 PSI/1000 RPM is all that's needed.

Idle is low. You should go up on the oil.
Hi flow race filter can raise pressure.

There is a new Valvoline Max Life for older engines.
Additional breather no problem.
