Default Pertronix 12 v source

According to the instructions, the igniter module requires a full 12v to operate properly. Seeing how the current lead on c3 is 9v (resistor wire) to the coil, what would be a good source for the 12v that operates with the key?
I remember seeing a post on this in the past, but couldn't find anything with a search.

I ran a wire right from the fuse box. Take your test light and see which is hot with key off, then with key on.
I haven't had any problems, and I got a nice spark.

Thanks Larry....do you happen to remember which fuse location you used?

Yes I just looked and there is a location on the fuse panel towards the bottom and center that says ign. use that one. I ahve a wire coming from it already, but I just spliced into it. works good

I installed the Ignitor and used the stock power source. Are you installing an Ignitor II? My setup works fine.

Another source to tap into is the wire to the idle solenoid on a Q-Jet or the choke wire on an electric choke. These are hot only with ignition on.

Thanks all for the responses, I will give the ignition fuse location a try. The car is a 4-speed with a bi-metal choke on the carb so there is to sol. or elec choke.

That is what I did as well .However after two faulty Pertronix II Modules and having the car leave me stranded I sent them back and bought a mallory dual point distributor with Tach drive and could not be happier

Hi
Just find the coil resistor and connect to the incoming power lead.
On my 68, the resisitor is located above the wiper motor.
I first had the PERTRONIX connected behind the resistor and at idle RPM, when the aux electric fan cut in, the engine dyed. Thsi was due to the PERTRONIX running at its limit Voltage and due to the momentary Voltage drop at fan cut in, it dyed.
No more problems after connecting it in front of the resistor at the 12 V input.
Good luck Gunther :seeya

WESCH is pointing out a good point on Pertronix and realy all boxes, Crane, MSD, Mallory etc. These things need +12vdc to run right. The coil wire from from the ignition is only +12 during start then drops to 9vdc or lower. Hence, the firing of the box may and may not happen. Pick up a true +12vdc at the fuse box or other source that is only on when the ignition is turned on.

Another point is don't forget to set the rev limiters (either switches or pills)at least what your expected top RPM's will be, or when you hit the rev limit - poop you cut out dropping pulses and can chase you tail looking for a misfire.
