I love the C-3's(this is my 5th), but after thinking it out over the last few days I've decided that this project has ended. I really thought I could get into toying with these vettes again, but the time I used to have just isn't there anymore and I will admit I don't have the enthusiasm I used to. Plus... I just can't see sinking any more $$$ into it. Be watching E-bay in the weeks ahead for a turnkey(vette, car trailer) auction.
It's not a big deal. Sooner or later you have to look at reality and just move on. I wish I knew what was going on with my mind when I started this as there are very limited opportunities that I would ever make it to the drag strip and that's where I was headed. $20,000+ later and it never seeming to end it was not hard to finally just stop.... take the losses.... and move on.
BG, I think I know where you are coming from. There was a time for it, but that time has expired. I think we all go through that at one point or the other.
Don't stop coming around here, I will miss my Texan friend giving me a hard time, and joking with us. :yesnod:
Not at all. Will probably take the proceeds and put it towards a C-5.That means you will have to move to the C5 forum.... you dont really want to do that do you? It's a whole different world over there. :D
Na, he can go to the C-5 section only when he needs advice on his car, for the rest of the BS he can still come here. :yesnod:
It was a hard decision to make. I'm going to start taking pictures tomorrow and start getting all the script ready for when it goes on the blocks. I'm an honest seller, so I should run off 90% of the freeloaders and make it a bit harder to sell. I'm good for the next 3 months for trailer storage, so it's not as if I am looking to unload everything soon. And I have no intentions of going straight to a C-5. But, I will be looking from that point.
Too bad that you are selling her... :( :( :(
However - I can relate to what you are saying.. I have put over 50k so far into my C3 with no chance of recover a big part of the money that I invested... I also have plans to sell my C3 after hitting 11's.. Well - however - I would get another C3.. I'm actually very interested in a C3 Race Vette with a solid axle and around 700+ HP.... I want a wheelie making 10 second C3...
I don't want to modify the 68' that radical.. After all - it's a great looking convertible.. and I don't want to install a cage etc. to make the car legal for 11's... Therefore - I will sell her (after hitting 11's) and start another project...
Thats great, the C-5 market is only getting better. My Father in Law just picked up a 2000 coupe in Houston for $26,500. If you are tired of fiddling and ready to kick back, IMO its the way to go.
Buying a C5 is just the start of a whole new thing. Trust me. My dad sold me his 69 to buy a 95. Then he traded in the 95 on a brand new 01 that he ordered. Now he has been modding the 01, and is thinking of doing more mods. I highly doubt you are just gonna buy a C5 and leave it alone. You are gonna buy it, think "boy, this is a nice car, and fast", then you'll get used to it. After that, you will want it to go faster. Then you will start spending lots of money to make it go faster. The story is the same, even if the car is different. :D
It's amazing how our priorities change with time. I just don't have the patience (or lower back strength) to get into serious wrenching anymore. I prefer to drive. Thank goodness my C3 is 95% done. I am sure you will enjoy a C5 very much. But do drop by here and say hello from time-to-time!
There's still a few things to do before this vette goes. I've still got to get it running first. It'd be pretty darn silly trying to sell this thing without at least starting the new motor to see what it sounds like. Maybe I'll change my mind then?? I don't think so as I still have $$$ to spend to even make the 1st trip down the dragstrip. I still need the hardtop($700+)... another set of rims & drag radials($450)... racing helmet($230... I would buy the Simpson LX as it has resale value)... and I probably should do some bullet proofing to the tranny to not rip it up. So that would be another $2000+? Nope!
But... like I said I still have to get it running. I pulled off the passenger front wheel yesterday to see if I can loosen the front of the hood to get it *unstuck* and there's no way of getting to those bolts on the hood with the rubber strip that seals along the top of radiator support to the hood. So.. am I going to have to rip it out(the rubber seal that is)? I just wanted some thoughts before I go back out there in awhile. Then I can finish the few knick-knacks like making the coil/distributor wire and hook up the fuel lines. Other than that, the only $$$ left to spend are hooking up the sidepipes to the collectors and a front end alignment.
By the way... I will put about 100 miles on it and drive(not trailer) it over to Houston Raceway Park and make one pass. If I trailer it someone might question whether it will run under 13.99. Otherwise, they will just think it is another one of those 15-16 second vettes. They are going to kick me out after that, but at least it will be one yeeeee-haaaaa!!!
Keep it until the c6 comes out. The price of the C5 is gonna DROP DROP DROP when it comes out. Just like the C4's when the C5 came out. Prolly pick one up for 10-15 grand low-mid miles.
I do not believe my eyes! You know your still welcome to come out and join us on the power tour. As for the track, play around with your launches a few times and roll past the finish line real slow then when you have the launch down go for it. The better the time and speed the more money you will get at the auction. good luck on the sell and new vette.
Mike
