Default Greetings

Hey there. New to the Corvette circle of things. I am in the process of getting a bone stock 1975 L48 with around 50K on it.

Taking the Vette in lieu of cash for some completed work. I am aware that this isn't, by far, the quickest of the marque. Sooooo, if you were me, had a HUGE hankering for speed, and had a budget of around 7K, how would you make this car a possible contender?

The suspension and brakes were just restored during a frame off (?) about 4 months ago.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome aboard. :seeya  When do you take posession (sp,??) of new to you vette? Your first time out if you've never driven a C3 is really an experience you'll remember. That view over the hood is something else. As to your question. When you say the suspension was just rebuilt, what did they do to it? The reason I ask is that there are a whole lot of improvements to be made that I feel are well worth the time and money in the suspension area. There are a couple of places to get these suspension parts at, Vette Brakes and Products is the one that I deal with, there is also Dick Guldstrand's business, which I'm not real sure of the name. As far as engine goes, you could drop in a nice crate motor, and still bag the stock powerplant for future reinstall, and the addition of an overdrive tranny is always a nice treat. :D What do you want to work on first? Do you do your own work, or do you take it to a mechanic? Anyway, welcome aboard. Don't be afraid to ask question. :seeya :seeya

Thanks for the reply...

While I understand "There is no replacement for displacement."; reasoning, I would like to know the pro's and con's of this transplant...

Stonger front suspension?
Bigger brakes?
Trans upgrades?
Wiring?

How does this differ from going the 383 Stroker route?

The car will be primarily a street car most likely a daily driver weather permitting.

The suspension was rebuilt by the previous owner (auto fab/customizing shop owner-think lowriders) with stock components. I am pretty sure his intent was to keep it original for the time being while using it as a daily driver.

I take delivery on the 24th of this month and will post pics and exacts then.

It will need a respray and rear cover as the original paint is dull and the rear cover has split. Interior is ok, probably 8 of 10. Stock stereo was removed and some 'bling-bling' style system was installed with something like 850 watts of whatever...

In the mean time I am doing as much research as possible and acquiring various parts to install immediately.

I would like to put the widest/tallest rim/tire combo on it as well as stiffen the suspension a bit.

All said and done, I would like to have around 400 rwhp w/out bling and oh yeah...hold the rice. :D

While I am of the big block creed, they are not most often the best bang for the buck and while the swap is possible from small to big block some of the parts are sometimes hard to run down. If I was in your situation I'd be looking real hard at a ZZ4 for motivation, they are a great little crate motor and far stronger then your stock L-48, albeit you will need to open the exhaust up to take advantage of that engine. I'd think you could do a ZZ4, plus all the peripherals you would need for under 7k and have very respectable power. Of course if you have the money you could always go the Rat route.
