My problem is that I get hot air blowing out of the vents all the time. If I switch the controls to vent, bi-level or to "heat," the ac comes on. In addition, the ac compressor makes a strange noise and gets very hot. I believe there is something wrong with it and would prefer not to use the ac for now. If I could kill the hot air coming from the vents it would be ok for the time being. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Eric
use your heater hose shut off valves..turn them off...as for the other heat...vettes draw alot of heat from the motor to the interior...i noticed this before i restored mine, and went through extensive insulation in the interior and pluged off the heater hoses...no more heat, and my motor runs 160 so that helps too. as for your a/c...unplug it...who needs a/c when you got windows down, t-tops or vert top off.
Who needs AC? WE DO! Try Florida weather without it and you'll regret it ;) I solved my problem pretty easily by fixing the vaccume lines that open and close the doors to the AC and Heater ducts. Its not like a newer cars AC, but its decent.
I asked this similar question once before. My fan was alawys on. There were three seetings, low, medium, and high. The forum members explained how I could disconnect one wire going to my fan to stop the low setting. As far as AC goes, I have absolutely no need for AC here in AK. T-tops are off when the weather is halfway decent. :flag

:iagree:
if you don't have it here you feel like this===> :mad
You're experiencing a common problem in C3s. You can eliminate some heat by installing a manual or vacuum controlled shutoff valve on the heater hose leading to the heater core. This prevents the circulation of hot water in the heater core which bleeds over into the AC and vent system. You can also rebuild the heater box to make sure all the seals are working correctly. I did all this and got a slight improvement but the biggest improvement came when I found that the plenum that feeds the fan motor was separated from the body and allowing heat from the HEADERS to come into the ventilation system. Here's an old post on the subject and how to fix it. This improved the interior temps 1000% and stopped the engine smell from entering the cockpit. Take a look, it's an easy repair. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=362830

I second that. I actually got the chills the other day after completing this repair. I may actually have to hook up my heater core now.
Have posted many times:

Disconnect connector at resistor box under hood pass. side near high blower relay. You can bend down the connector to dk. brown wire & reconnect.
