I have my rotors off for brakes. The bearings and race surfaces look real well - no pitting or ... In an article regarding rear bearing, the author mentions that if the bearing rotates on the spindle and mars it the spindle should be replaced.
Does the same hold true for the front bearings and spindles? Are the bearings (inners) allowed to spin on the spindle? What’s a good measure of when the spindle should be replaced?

Curse these sausage-like fingers! Are the bearings actually a little loose on the spindles? They shouldn't be rock tight on there because you have to be able to take them off by hand. But they shouldn't just fall off either. If in doubt, replace them, they're cheap.
