well basically i have an 81 with a 406ci small block. i have a edelbrock rpm air gap, holley 650 vac secondary, hooker headers, flomaster 50 series mufflers, all forged internals, have no clue on what kinda cam i have
well anyways how would i be able to turn this into a real torque machine. i was thinking about getting a holley 750 dp and lars recurve kit, i dont know what kinda cam to get , or any other mods, also i was wondering how you can tell what kinda rear end gears u have, im not sure if they have been replaced or not. thanks for all your help in advance
uhh, deeper gears make your car feel a lot torquier, basically buy some heads with really good low lift numbers, maybe AFR 210's, and get a not so radical cam, and a larger carb would probabely not help torque, 650 is perfect for a torquey low rpm 406
Used to race with a guy who had a '71 Camaro. Our engine builder had a 400" SBC 'laying-around', so they stuffed a Comp Cams 292H in it, added a Victor Jr intake & a 750 Holley, 'on-sale' headers, a shift-kit, and sticky tires. Guy'd drive it 200 miles on the Pa. Turnpike to Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., on SUNOCO 94, with his 3.08 gears, run 13.00s/12.90s @ 100+ MPH, and back home, never break a thing, NO PROBLEM! Considering how 'little' they did to it, I was amazed. I'd think that is a 'torque monster', eh?
