yes, yesterday i had a brand new 2500 stall converter put into my vette and today it broke while i was driving down the road......im not sure on what brand it was...cause i didnt install it...but what is a good converter to use? i need one that....wont break..... :mad
oh and....umm...like ive said before im not good with cars...i usually paid to get stuff done....but im out of luck here....my car cannot be towed....so...how hard is a stall converter install? i have friends that know agood bit bout cars....but i just wana hear from yall guys/gals on how hard a typical stall install would be....thanks...
It's not that hard of a job if you have access to a lift , doing it on the ground is really a bear. How do you know the converter is broke? They normally a fool proof if installed right. I see you are in AL. What part ? I am in Athens and would be glad to help if you are in the Northern part. I would take it back to the installer and let them find the problem Good Luck.
i agree, they're not that hard to install.
btw, this is kinda OT, but is there an easy way to tell if your stock convertor has been replaced with a stall convertor?
ok..thanks...no...im as south as you can get in Al......and no access to lift...i dunno...im prolly gonna fix this prob and sell the car.....i love vettes....but i do not have the time for fixing it right now......
Probably broke due to improper installation. The shop could have possibly not pushed in on far enough onto the input/stator shaft and perhaps they didn't torque the bolts that attach it to the flywheel and they fell out. What is it doing that makes you think that it broke? I'd call the shop and tell them that it broke and they'd probably fix it for free and pay for towing. Changing a converter is a pretty easy job. It can be done with simple shop tools, only thing you'd really want is a lift or atleast get the car completely up in the air on four jackstands as the transmission is basically in the middle.
How do you know the converter broke? Could it possibly be something else let go, or is it obvious that it is the converter?
I reccommend B&M Holeshot or Nitrous series converters. The Nitrous series has an anti baloon plate in it to help withstand the extra punch you get with a Nitrous system. If in fact it is the converter I would go with one of these. When I bought a converter for my vette I was talked out of the lower line of converters. I am happy with mine and have had no trouble with it so far. I am only running a Holeshot 2000 but it was all I wanted in the car as I do alot of low RPM running around town. The more stall you have the more heat you create. Good Luck.
I would Get a TCI stall convertor I have had mine in for a year and I have had no problems whatsoever. It sounds to me like the stall is not the problem and probably was poor installation they probably(as someone mentioned) Did not push it on far enough...You woud hear a definite clicking into place. The break-away 2500 is what I run :smash:
