Engine numbers "HELP"
A friend of mine has a 78 pace car with very low miles and he is going for the Benchmark with Bloomington and they have sent him a questionaire he has to fill out. The question is , on the engine block there are 2 numbers , one is the casting and one is the stamping. Which one is which. Thanks for the help.....LT

Casting # is cast into the block and at at the rear drivers side near the bell housing flange.
The stamp # is on the stamp pad, a machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head.

Tom, on the pad in front of the engine there are two sets of nbumbers, one is the partial serial number and there is another one on top of that..LT

One contains the last six digits of the VIN. The other is the engine assembly/usage code. It will look like V0215CLT, where V=Flint engine plant, 0215=Feb 15th assembly date, and CLT=usage code.
