Have a dead horn on my '77. Thinking it could be anything from the relay, fuse, contacts or horn itself. Before I get myself into trouble , how does the horn cap on the steering wheel come off? I always hate it when I pry something off that wasn't suppose to be pried and get that sickening snap that tells me I just screwed up. This is my first Corvette so it's all new to me and I'll be thankful for some advice from some experienced Vette owners.
Thanks,
Cant help, mine dont work either. And I havent fixed it for the same reason as you, I dont want to break it. Maybe Jim Shea will chime in and help us out.
I think the 77 column is the same as that in my 80, based on the pictures in the Corvette Central catalog, but the only way to get it off is to pry it off. To be on the safe side, disconnect the battery first, then stick a screwdriver in under the horn cap and pry gently around where it's snapped on. And rather than lift the screwdriver up, it might be better to use a wide flat screwdriver and twist it. It takes a bit of force, so don't be afraid. I've popped mine off a few times using this method and haven't broken anything yet, but I can't figure out any other way to do it.
i have a 76 with a dead horn and that's what i did to mine. used a screwdriver and popped the lil button off where i foundddddddd putty silastic, and! epoxy :mad the horn still doesn't work but at least that crap is outta there.will figure out what else is wrong this weekend  good luck with yours :D ......annie...and welcome
Thanks for all the replies.....Hoping to check out the horn this weekend but I think I'll check the contacts under the horn button last. I'm leaning toward the relay but who knows. Glad to get on the forum cause even though my car's drivable there's a lot of "little things" I want to fix and will need some expertise. One thing I found out real quick is nothing on these cars is easy to get at. But the fun driving them is worth it.
Had some time to mess with the car so started to check out the horn connections. Amazing how much easier it was to get at from the top with the hood open than from underneath like I tried before Duh. Cleaned the connections and now I have a horn again. Glad I started with the simple stuff first.
