Default Underdash wiring Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm putting my dash back together after over a year and have a wire I don't know what to do with. It is a black ground wire behind the tach with a screw connection on the end, it extends to about 10 inches from the harness. Does it attach to the bracket that holds the vacuum overide switches? If not, where does it go???? The on behind the speedo attaches to the cowl, right?

Most of our members are afraid of wiring questions, especially underdash wiring questions! (me too!) That is why nobody has answered your question yet. It's dark and confusing under there..... with a tangle of multi-colored wires going every which way. We would much rather answer a question about, say, how to make your white letter tires white! I would probably just screw it into the nearest hole.... well, not really, but somewhere that seemed to provide an effective ground. I guess if you wanted to get professional about it you could test the location with a meter first to make sure the ground works. Don't know the "correct" place. Maybe somebody else does? MJ

You don't have to ground it to a specific place, any good place for a ground will work. Just be sure to scrape away any paint or corrosion so its touching bare metal.

Well you didn't say the car year, so I"ll say on my '72, there were two black wires with puch on tab connectors, one for each of the instrument panels....one for the tach, one for the speedo, and one that went to the 3 tab connector on the center console gauges....plugs in back of one of them...
NOW, the other end of that black wiring bunch in there also goes through the bulkhead connector, I"m sure, and has that ten inch wire with loop on it....that loop on MY car went to a hole just above the kickpanel on the driver's side....a ~1/4 inch diameter sheetmetal screw into the birdcage for grounding the instruments/lights/radio....etc....

I hope that covers it.....

I have the one above the kick panel into the windshield frame. The one I question in near the center of the car, near the ignition switch. I have th two plug ons on the tach and speedo. I just don't know what this one is supposed to ground. It comes out of the harness right by the wires for the ignition switch and the tach lights. My car is a 68. I don't see this wire on the wiring diagram either.
