I'm running P245 60 R15 tires on my '77. What tire pressure is reccomended with this tire? The info I got from GM reccomends 20lbs with stock 70 tires but that seems very low. But I'm new to owning a Corvette so once again I'll wait and listen to the voices of experience.
Thanks,
Thanks, MNJack...interesting reading .....since my tires and car are similar to Sizzlechest's I'll follow the recommendation of the manufacturers sticker and see what happens. Actually with all the crummy weather we've been having here lately all I have to worry about is the correct tire pressure for sitting in the garage.
I have 235-60R15 front and 255-60R15 rear. I am running about 26psi to get a little softer ride around town. If I were planning on doing extended high speed driving I would boost the cold pressure to 30-32 psi. I might even experiment with lower pressures as I am not concerned about tire wear on this car. I have had the car 15 years and have put about 11,500 miles on it so tire wear is not even an issue.
If you run pressures below 30, your tires will feel like you are riding on marshmellows. Cornering will be lousy, but straight line may have more grip. My 69 cornered like a Pinto (not a good thing!) when I ran the pressure at 24psi. If you start to wear out the center of the tread with 30-32 psi, I would strongly advise to either get narrower tires, or wider wheels to mount them on.
Just had it out for a quick cruise and to put some gas in it (something I will be doing a lot I think) and it drove fine. I put all four tires to 32 pounds and the ride was good and it cornered great.
