I need to replace the mufflers on my 72. My goal is to have a nice street machine,
not really into originality. Can anyone recommend a nice set of mufflers to go with. I like flowmasters, but would like to be able to talk while cruising. I have a set of Warlocks, but have never hurd anything about them.
I don't like flow masters. way too loud and they just vibrate the whole car. The warlocks are a really free flowing muffler also according to the articles. I don't know if I have heard them or not. I use stainless packed Vortec race mufflers made by cherry Bomb. They are about $135 each. Very quiet even with 20,000 miles on them unless you floor it.
If you're going to have a shop do the work, check and see what they sell and if they'll let you test listen to different brands (that's what mine did).
If your other pipes need replacing, you can look at Allen's Exhaust. I just got an "Off-Road" complete set up for my 70 big block. The exhaust shop said it was one of the nicest exhaust systems that they've installed. The mechanic said the vettes have some pretty intricate bends in the pipes and that this one was right on. The mufflers are fairly quiet at idle and have a nice rumble on accel.
