ANYONE NEED A 5 SPEED CONSOLE SHIFT PLATE ?
I am going to need a console 5 speed shift pattern plate for my '80. I thought I would ask Kevin Williams of Williams and Sons Engravers (http://www.engraver1.com/menu3r.htm) to see about making me one for my car.
Kevin made me a set of ZZ5 emblems for the GM 385 Fastburn and they came out extremely well. Several others here have also comissioned Kevin for special emblems and other items he does so well.
Anyway before I do I thought I would see how many here might be in on a little group purchase of one. I would hope that he could make one to fit '68 up and then '77 up for the later C-3s.
Kevins website shows several pictures of the Buick GN console inserts he sells and I think they look very nice. Anyone else interested? JIM

Re: ANYONE NEED A 5 SPEED CONSOLE SHIFT PLATE ? (tsw71)
I haven't talked to Kevin yet. I wanted to see how many we needed before I contacted his about it. I plan to have a similar plate of the original made to go in my '80 and the same for the earlier years. The original is embossed and this one will be engraved.
Kevin does things on an individual basis usually, but I thought if we could have a group that agreed on a certain style we could do a single set up and purchase them all at one time. He might be able to vary the style of your individual plate even. I wanted a TREMEC logo on mine.
I know that there are several her changing to 5 speeds and a few 6 speeds as well. I will contact him and see what he has to say. JIM

Re: ANYONE NEED A 5 SPEED CONSOLE SHIFT PLATE ? (PROSOUTH)
Jim,
I had one made for our 67 a few years ago by a local engraver. The plate is made in the stock style brushed aluminum with black lettering. I've since gotten them for quite a few folks with C2 five-speeds as well as one for a C1 six-speed. This fellow usually charges $15 for the initial "artwork" and less than $10 for each plate. It makes for a nice finishing touch and folks often do a double-take when they notice it.
I don't recall what the size or shape of the C3 plate is but those on the C2 measure 1.45" x 2.375" in a rectangular shape. Since he already has the pattern for those he would only charge for the plate itself if the C3 is the same. Something of a different shape would likely cost more. If you can't find a local source I can see what he would do for anyone interested if you can provide the exact size and shape.

Re: ANYONE NEED A 5 SPEED CONSOLE SHIFT PLATE ? (GrandSportC3)
I thought about this too Oliver and decided that I would much rather have the console to display the 5 speed pattern and then have a plain ball or a T- handle, I really prefer the plain ball. I think it would be much nicer to have the custom plate with the 5 speed pattern and I asked Kevin to laser engrave a TREMEC logo on mine.
I just sent Kevin an email and hope to have something back by tomorrow and I will post his reply. He has been ery reasonable on everything he has quoted me so far. Jim

Thanks Rich, I have already sent Kevin an Email and asked for his support. If this doesn't work out I will be happy to contact you supplier. I have already dealt with Kevin and had very good luck with his service.
Kevin has a laser engraver and conventional types of engraving. I posted his web-site above check out some of his work. He made me custom ZZ5 emblems last year for $22.50 each and they are great looking. Jim

Re: ANYONE NEED A 5 SPEED CONSOLE SHIFT PLATE ? (PROSOUTH)
I recieved this from Kevin this morning about the 5 speed shift plates.
"Jim, My Buick big seller is the black anodized aluminum overlay, followed by the clear-anodized version (semi-bright silver, satin finish); I use .031" (1/32") thick aluminum, and either can be engraved: the engraving on the black is a nice silver, however the engraving the clear anodized is very subtle (silver on silver) unless the engraving is painted (more $$)...as far as WHAT can be engraved, well, engraving is my main business so *most* anything goes! I charge a small digitizing fee if I have to convert or design special graphics or lettering ($5 to ?? depending on complexity), otherwise I'm fairly reasonable on engraving prices, typically an additional $5 to $15 in most cases is all! My prices for the 3-piece Buick console overlays start at $45, so this should be good for a starting estimate! I'll treat a group-purchase right too, if it comes to that!
Thanks Jim, hopefully I can help out! Kevin"
I need a 4 speed insert from a '68-'76 and one from a '77-'81 for Keviin to use for a pattern, anyone have a used one that we could borrow? Jim
