I started taking apart my exhaust sytem; lots of clamps, and especially the 3 nuts that hold the front pipe to the exhaust manifold. I was thinking I could save myself a lot of time if I had a ratchet wrench. Anybody use these things? :) MJ
I got a nice set of ratchet wrenches from MAC tools. The best thing about them is the heads swivel. It makes getting into some places alot easier. They are definitely my favorite tool in the chest.
Thanks for the feedback! :) I guess I will head over to Sears first thing tomorrow morning! :) Better to get them before the project than after, right? MJ
I drooled at them until I saw the price! $100 was a bit too much for a set of wrenches. I'm putting it on my christmas wishlist though...maybe santa will have a set in his bag this year.
I have a set of long and short of these wrenches.....When I removed and replaced my engine they were very handy......I also use them at the drag strip.
Only thing you have to keep in mind is never use them to loosen or tighten....they are designed for ratcheting off and on.....Putting lot's of torque on the ratchet side will cause premature failure of the ratchet mechanism....break nuts and bolts loose with box wrench first....then ratchet off or on.....They will be one of your favorite tools.....Next set I buy will be offset. :flag :seeya Cappy
Yes, they are nice, a friend has them in his tool box, and I have used them....
however I allready have 1/4 air ratchet setup, and tons of all sorts of other tools that get into tight places really well, swivels too, all sorts of junk.....
so MY own personal need is less, hense I have not bothered to get a set, I may change my mind though...
I''ve always called them ratcheting box-ends (what did I know...)and have known about them since I was 12. I always considered them a luxury and thought I'd never use them. Over ther past 28 years (I'm dating myself) I've only REALLY needed them about 5 or 6 times...until I bought this Vette! :smash:
The recent jobs that come to mind that would have been easier had I owned a set: EGR valve, fan removal (for numerous jobs), adjusting the altenator belt, power steering pump mounting bolts. How have I lived without these??! For that matter, how have I live without a air compressor and air tools for so long?
they do come in handy, they're not really an essential tool but they can really save your butt from time to time. The only thing i hate about them is even the sears ones cost $20 a piece. I got a set at work but i never bothered to get one for home.
