I have been trouble shooting my wiring harness and have a question. I find that with the coil unhooked I have 12 volts on the resistance wire. I thought that the purpose of the resistance wire was to lower the voltage?? Am I wrong? Does the voltage only drop when load is applied?? I found an old resistor and I find the same with it, very little drop across it too??? Maybe Lars can explain????
Re: Ignition resistor or resistance wire ??????? (zwede)
The voltage will only be lowered under load. You can measure the voltage with the engine running and you'll see it will be much lower. Probably 6-9V.
:withstupid:
Just try this for fun:
Hook up a light bulb between that resistance wire and ground. Measure the voltage. You should see a considerable drop. The more amps the bulb draws, the lower the voltage.
With a considerable drop I mean MORE than 1V. If you see less, it may not be a resistance wire at all.
