Default C2 guy thinking about C3

I was hoping to get the C-3 guys opinion. I have found a 70, high HP 350 vert which I'm considering but only for a good price. He claims to be the second owner after the last owner died and as far as he knows only the cars color and intake manifold have changed. The pics appear to show a decent driver and he's asking 12K. I think I can get it for 10K but he mentioned the paint (BLK, should be silver) is blistering and that it has been backed into in the past but the qtr panel has been repaired. I can forward pics to anyone that wants to look them over for me and if you live in the bay area and feel like looking at the car with me I would appreciate it. This is all based on the fact that 10K is a good, can't loose price. My wife thinks I'm

im gone to send this to the top for now, maybe itll get a few more looks and responces.Well check everything over first, brakes interior frame for rust in front of the rear wheels,if everything looks good and you need paint only then for 10,000 your getting a nice 70 vert.Good luck

'70 is a great year for the C-3 verts. Post some pics so the group can give you their thoughts. Or... are you worried about one of the *snakes*(lowlife slimy members) on this board beating you to it? If the vette was in Houston I would be trampling you to get there first.

Just kidding!

My first question is how many miles on the car? 10K is pretty steep if the car has gone through 2 paint jobs...might have been in the sun too long, maybe driven too many miles. May not have had good maintenance and will require rebuild of suspension and drivetrain. I would ask for an image of the undercarriage to see how much oil and dirt is built up. Many corvettes I've seen have a real nice newly detailed body, but the undercarriage has wires hanging down, oil caked to the tranny tunnel, etc.

12K would be an excellent buy if it's clean and mechanically sound with mostly original equipment including engine block. If it's dirty underneath and requires fresh paint and interior work then I would drop down to like 8K or walk.

I kinda disagree. If it's solid (no rust) and the quarterpanel repair was well done, some dirt and unoriginal parts wouldn't keep me from buying it at $10K. Paint's definitely an issue because it's expensive, but if the interior is sound without a lot of sun damage and the drive train's solid & can pass a compression test, I'd say go for it.

Sure would make it easier if we could see pics--

I don`t think that is too bad of an asking price. I think if you can get it for $10k it surely isn`t too bad of a deal. Be sure to check in front of the rear wheel well for rust and along the underside of the rocker panels this is one of the problem areas.

Thanks for the replys and if someone is willing to host the pics I will send them the pics. I'm assuming all the normal rust areas are the same as the C-2 but as for the other items the car is all foriegn. The car has 152K and is said to be a good driver.

That looks like pretty fair "10 footer" paint. Even with 150K miles (I assume the motor's been rebuilt at some point?), that car looks easily worth 10K to me. The rust danger areas would indeed be the same as for the C2. If a mechanic passes the mechanicals, I'd buy that puppy. With 150K on it, expect to have to do some suspension work to get it to drive worth a damn, though.

All in all it looks very nice for a 33 year old car with 152K miles on it. As mentioned previously you don't see too many chrome bumper verts for that price so definitley look it over good (as if you wouldn't  ) and if he'll take 10 or 11 thousand go for it!

Thanks bgrice for posting the pics  It appears my thinking was in-line with the forum that this car appears to be a good deal if I can get it for 10K. Keep the comments coming..... :D I think I will call the guy back today and schedule a viewing. Hats off to Steve for offering to view the car with me as well
