My "71 with crate 454 HEI motor went from easy starting to hard starting to no start. I know it"s getting fuel but how can I check the coil to see if it"s throwing fire? thanks. :banghead:
Pick up an inductive spark tester at your local auto parts store and touch it to the plug wires while cranking. I also like the spark plug tester that plugs into the boot terminal like a spark plug and grounds to the block, has a light that flashes when there's a spark.
I just fixed a frustrating ignition problem - the spring tab on the rotor that makes contact with the distributor cap was intermittent. When I'd test for continuity, it would check out fine. But when the cap was on and the spring tab was depressed, it was an open circuit. Cheap parts.
