I just realized that my corvette book does not have the numbers I need and I'm going to look at the car tomorrow I would like to confirm the tranny, block, heads, etc are numbers matching and original as the current owner states. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Jason
So you are going to look at an "early" 1970 convertible. That's all we can tell you from the vin. Are you really going to check all those numbers? You will probably have to write down all the numbers you see, then post them on the forum. Otherwise, you could tell us what engine, tranny, rear end the car is advertised to include, and some helpful individual might list all the numbers that are supposed to be there. There would also be a lot of dated parts that would have to be early enough to precede the early build date of the car to actually be considered "numbers matching" even if they were the right numbered part. Jason,
Go to the nearest Barnes & Noble and buy "Chevy by the Numbers" by Alan L. Colvin about $28. The issues run in 5 year stints, 60-64, 65-69, & so on. Get the year you're after and it will list all numbers for blocks, heads, diffs, trans, alternators, distributors etc. Don't forget to take a wire brush with you.
Good luck, Greg
Greg,
Thanks for the advice and I will buy the book. This is a small block car and I was under the impresion they all used the same heads with minor changes for the high hp small block.
Thanks again...Now I have something to do for lunch :yesnod:

In 70 there were three different head numbers used on the small block. Thos number cannot be seen unless you pull the valve covers. Then there were 14 engine use suffix's. One block number, 3970010. Five distributor numbers. Three alternator numbers. and so on. You do need "the book".
