Default Rust Question

Hello Everyone. I have a question about rust(oh noooo.......) repairs. I have recently purchased a 1972 Vette as a project. The car is complete but, neglected. Anyway, I have been all under the car checking the frame for rust and it looks great. It had a cracked windshield so, I pulled it out today and found a rust spot on each upper winshield frame. It looked like surface rust but, after working it a little with the die grinder, found them both to be about "nickel" sized. Everything else appears solid. My question is, Is it safe to repair holes this size or should replacement frames be welded in?
Also, where else can rust be hiding and, how do I check for it? I have had the kick panels off and everything seems ok there but, I just want to be sure before I start pouring $$$$ into this car.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Copngrats. you need to check the bottom of the birdcage. i have just vacuumed the inside of my fenderwells and got alot of leaves out of there. it all depends on how deep you want to get into it, but i would typically go overboard, so it might not be smart to ask me. if everything else looks ok, you might be alright, but I would be kinda leary about everything else.

RUST SUCKS :mad Mike, I'm going thru the very same process with my '79 except a whole 8" section of the center frame near the rt corner was GONE. Yes, just have a GOOD welder take care of those small holes, no need to replace the frame sections (be nice to see a pic though). Take all of the interior window trim as well as the chrome corner pieces that the ttop and visor hook into. These hide rust damage well. Open your doors wide and look for rust leakage thru paint and body connecting points down along the window frame as it disappears into the body, sign of possible prob, but not necessarily a certainty. good luck.
