Default turbo 400

is the difference between a turbo350 and a 400 is that the 400 has a 4 speed auto(overdrive) while the 350 is only 3 speed

No both are only 3 speeds no overdrives. The Th400 is a more "beefy" tranny and can take a great amout of abuse. The TH350 is an excellent tranny but in it's stock form not as stout. BUT set up correctly the Th350 will take the abuse and have less parasitic loss then the Th400.

By your sig. I assume you have an eighty... You 350 COULD be a lock-up 350C whicth means it would lock the torque converter in 3rd. Not exactly a four speed but you would feel a slight bump when the T.C. locks I think they started using them in 1980.
