Default 1980 radiator fan

I need help I am going to buy an electric fan for my vette that came off a 1981 but will that be enough to cool it because I don't want to make the wrong move here. Buying this fan is to replace my stock fan that is run by the motor. Also where do I get a sensor that will turn the fan on and off I am not sure if the fan I am going to buy will include it. also will my vette work with the sensor. Thanks for the help

so your trying to get rid of the belt driven fan alltoghter? if so i hope you have a aluminum radatior. but to anwser your question about the electric fan, if your already using one of from a 81, then all you would have to do is splice in the new fan. its just a power and ground wire so it dont matter what wire you splice with the other. but i suggest you go with a dual electric fan. ecklers has one in there catalog that i now of. espicaly if your getting rid of the belt driven fan. you do know that the #1 reason of engine failure is due to overheating. have you considered doing what i did to my 81, i put on a 10,000 rpm flex fan, which draws a lot less power then the clutch fan and left the eletric fan. i also installed a BE Cool radator, (a universial one) cause they cost a lot less, and did some minor mods to get it to fit. and scine then i havent seen my eletric fan turn on once, and i know it works cause i bench tested it. and to anwser our other question, the fan turns on when the coolant tempeture sensor tells the computer to turn on (at 230*f i think) the eletric fan. hope this info helps

I have a 1980 L-82 which came with an electric fan from the factory. It includes a special fan shroud with a trap door in the bottom and a temperature sensor in the passengers side of the engine. It was never intended to cool the engine, by itself, without the engine driven fan. The sensor and wiring harnes is available from any one of the Corvette parts houses. Try ZIP! Just look for 80 L-82 parts (actually, I think 79 thru 82 would work but 80 parts would be more compatable.
