Default Brake troubles

OK I got the master cylinder replaced cause I lost my brakes on the highway and there was just enough to stop the car at a slow roll. Replaced the master cylinder, and went to the cruise in, and lost the brakes on the way there. They bled the brakes cause they could find no leaks and we werent losing fluid anywhere. Well on the way back we lost the brakes AGAIN, and managed to make it home without incident.

Anyway, the brakes are really soft except for about a touch of grab at the bottom, just enough to come to a slow stop. there are no leaks anywhere and we arent losing fluid anywhere. Did a bad master cylinder get put in again or is there a more devious problem?????

If you have no leaks I could only think that it would be either air trapped in the master cyl, somewhere else in the system, or a bad master. Was the correct bleeding sequence followed? You can find those by searching the archives.

Guru, with 17k+ posts on this forum....I"m kind of surprised you haven't run across the fixes for this problem...do a search....what's happening is typically the REAR rotors are out of tolerance with too much runout...and then the stock caliper seals/pistons/springs follow that runout...and so i'ts a problem with air ingestion into the caliper directly from the pistons....happens while driving...

the easiest cure is to replace all the pistons/seals and eliminate the springs....USE the O ring pistons from VBP, and have over with it....hopefully your calipers are already SS lined...take them apart and you can see if they are easily...it's obvious...

Unless you are losing fluid, you are gettin air into the system. Since air molecules are smaller than brake fluids then the air is gettin in, but the fluid isn't getting out. Most common place is the calipers. You can test them by bleeding them and watching for air bubbles. The one that keeps popping out air bubbles is the bad one. Here's a link to the bleeding method which will allow testing the system as well as bleeding them: http://67.116.80.82/Vette/BrakeHelp/BrakeHelp.html
