my distributor is sparking every 10 seconds or so its after market, not installed by me but 2 owners ago its big and i think say Delco-Remmy on it i dont even know where to start when working with a distributor so any help would be good the spark is ont the back side and it helped to contribute to the fire under my hood today, thats how i fopuhd the spark, the fire did no real damage but a fuel line was leakign and the spark set it off, luckly i got it out with the t top bags quickly and almost no damage was done, just to a few small parts i was going to replace tomrrow, but how do i get tehd istributor to stop sparking the spark seems to be at the base of the cap and moves to the back of the car to the frame or some frame like thing
please help
thanks guys ill get better ifo tomorrow but the orgional would be HEI but this might be all new or just the new top end but it is really big and atleast 2 years old probly 3 or more im trying to save all my cash now so im on a tight budget, i just hope the engine doesnt light up again like today aff now all my fingers are either cut, from workingon the engine, or burnt from the fire, luickly i had someone who knew what i was dealoing wiht stop bye
thanks mystery man who works down the street and wants to buy my car or andolder one
you may want to make sure you do not have any leaking fuel around your carburetor reigon leaky fuel can cause a fire cuz when sparks fly it lights boom be careful dude cuz your neighbor wont want to buy a burned up corvette with distributor problem
Anyone want me to put some of these . . . in there? :hat
already had the fire but thanks anyways thats how we found the spark, the fuel line is all fixed up with marine grade hose that is about twice as thick and extra secure the fire caused almost no damage, put it out fast w/ the t top bags
the best i have been able to gather is that the distributor is made for big trucks, like 18 wheelers, cant find it on delco remy's page but they sell alot of other eletrical stuff for big rigs. think ive got enough power in those wires, no wonder it kept burnig up the ones on the previous owner, now ive got some huge butt wire w/ a lifetime replacement gaurntte no matter what ill try to get a pic, my guess is that maybe this thing is generating so much power, it does run big rig diesels, that its enevitable that a spark is gonna jump when a big peice of metal is near it, ill continue researching and it was put on 2 owners ago so the PO doesnt know anything about it, just that it went through about 3 sets of wires in 2 years and about 2000 miles
ok well apparently in the p[ast, like 5-20 years ago im guessing, delco remy used to be the biggest car parts manufacturer theier site now only talks about big rig stuff so may be its an old one that just looks about 2 years old, visualy it looks great but i dont know much about distributors so im not gonna take it apart till i get some idea of what im doing/looking for, so this might be a fairly old one made for cars but its still pretty big and it did eat alot of wires from the PO like a set every other week untill he put on some special race wires.
