'79 Speedo cable

'79 Speedo cable
I've got a bouncing speedo needle (and it's off by 5 MPH or so) I see an 'upper' and 'lower' cable listed in the catalogs...which do i need, and can the end that attaches to the gauge fit thru the firewall grommet ?

I just bought a new one piece cable for my 69. The speedo still doesn't work, but it will bounce occasionally. I know the cable and speedometer are good, so I figure either I don't have the cable pushed all the way into the tranny speedo gear or the gear needs to be replaced. And that's a ****** to get to.

If your 79 has cruise you may try disconnecting the cable at the cruise transducer and turn the cable with a drill and see if the speedo still bounces. No bounce=the upper cable is good. Disconnect the cable at the tranny and try the same as above. It could also be the cruise transducer itself.
