Default Getting antenna motor out

Right now I am trying to take antenna motor out of the back of the Vette (78). So far I dropped the driver side muffler to get at it. Took out what was holding the motor and deal to the Vette, but one thing that we can't get out is the wiring. There was one connector that we got out, but we can't figure out how to detach the white wires to take out the antenna motor.

We don't see a connector to disconnect and it's still suspending the antenna and motor in the Vette. We need to disconnect these wires, but can't find a way. Any ideas??

Posted is a picture of what I'm talking about. The white wires are what we want to disconnect from the motor. We just can't figure it out how to do so.

Please help!! Any ideas? How would I do this?

Thanks!!

Hey SilverShark - welcome to the forum!

I haven't been in that part of the car for a while, but I know on my '80, there's a connection on the drivers side, inside the car, just forward of the bulkhead at the top/back of the wheel well. It's not that difficult to get to as you can peel the carpet back a bit to reach it. If you have speakers in the back, the drivers side speaker will need to be removed. then there is a rubber plug that will need to be removed to slip the connection out through the back.

Go slow and look it over close as you go. It won't be as diffiult as it seems. :smash:

if all else fails cut the wire and re-solder it to the new one. not like anoyone is gonna see it and judging by the grease and dirt and crap you have all over the bottom of your car, its not like its a show car anyway. Just buggin ya. It looks very clean under there you msut take very good care of it. Mine is a lot dirtier than that. You can't have a perfect car and drive it. good luck with that, something little like that personally i would cut the wire and resolder it on later, but some other people are more ****.

Mine had been previously cut in the 79, which is probably what you will have to do. I put them back together with wire connectors and then covered them in silicone to keep them from getting wet, dirty, or corroded. Then put electrical tape around them after the silicone dried.

How would I get at this connector? How would I pull part of the interior out? I don't want to mess up the interior. :( If it is hard and possibly harmful to the Vette, then I'll just cut the wires and put in my own connection.

Any ideas how to get at the connector back there? Thanks!! :)

So how would I get to this connector? What would I need to do to get the driver's side part of the cabin to give way so I can get at this connector to disconnet?

Thanks!! :)

Unless you are desperately trying to keep it perfect, it will be much easier to cut the wire and then use a connector. I don't know where the connector is because I wasn't worried about it; my wires had previously been cut years before. Just trying to get this back TTT for you.

As AVET4ME says, you can peel the carpet back toreach this. If you have the rear speakers, the drivers side one can be removed. It has cross head screws burried in the carpet surrounding the speaker grill. You'll then be able to see into the area at the back of the luggage area. The connector should be in that area, behind the "false" rea bulkhead. If you do peel the carpet back it can be stuck back down easily with any contact adhesive...

You don't have to take much apart. Remove the rear speaker, if you have them, pull the carpet back, starting from the rear and pull forward. The conection will be exposed very quickly as it's only about 12" ahead of the rear bulkhead. The wires are routed through the same bulkhead via a rubber plug that is easily removed. It's really fairly easy. While doing a splice like the others are suggesting will be a little easier, I believe that the connection will be better and last longer doing it the "original" way.

That's just my .02.

Okay, I'll go and try to do this. The only thing I don't understand is when you guys say to "peel back the rug". I can't really imagine doing this without ruining the rug or surrounding area.

But I'll take a look and give it a shot.

Thanks!

You shouldn't hurt the carpet. Go slow, you'll be surprised at how easy it is.
