Default Intake Manifold Selection

Just bought a 350 HO, the one with vortec heads. My local speed shop guy says that even a plain Edelbrock Performer won't fit under the stock hood.

What say you?

What year you got?

A performer will fit with a drop base air cleaner.

It's a 1980. If I go to a drop base air cleaner, does that limit me to using a Holley (or Demon) carb?

I'm running a Performer EPS, Holley Avenger 670 with a 1" drop base filter on my 81. No clearance problems at all.

Caution Blue80! :nono: If your'e running vortec heads you'll need a vortec intake to bolt up right and match the ports correctly. :yesnod:
Good news is Edlebrock, Wiend (Holley), and GM performance parts all sell'm. I doubt hood clearance will be a problem with any of these but haven't verified so can't guarentee it.
Now another detail to remember is vortec heads do not have a heat crossover passage. This heat crossover is used on carbs with the divorced choke and provides exhaust gas for the EGR valve (if you still use one). Good luck. :seeya

Thanks for the input fellas. I think I will go with the Performer EPS with a Holley or Demon, and cross my fingers.

Although......a guy I work with just installed a Holley Fuel Injection set up that I'm admiring quite a bit. :flag
