It has been along time since i have installed c3 carpet. For some reason i just can't figure out the wheel well pieces. I am using the ACC carpet kit. They have molded areas to them, but i just can't figure out which way they go. I spent an hour pulling my hair out last night on this. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone feeling like making a field trip to my shop to hold my hand?
Hi Scott,
I've done several of those and the wheel wells can be very confusing. Some carpet sets will have a cutout piece on the insulation side where the shoulder belts should be cut through. If you don't have this reference I'll try to explain as clearly as I can. First take both pieces and push them, carpet side out, to roughly the shape they are molded to. One side will have a long stright edge that tapers off to a point. The straight edge runs along the bottom of the wheel well by the storage compartment doors, the tapered point needs to be trimmed and stuffed into the point between the rear compartment floor and the seat back bulk head. Both sides usually need a generous amount of trimming, especially at the rear vertical point, but they will take shape. I hope this helps.
Good luck, Greg
I think it was just the way that particular carpet set was cut because i installed carpet in a 73 today, and it was easy as pie. The car i had the problem with was a 75. Your info was very helpful though. Thanks.
Yes, if you have photo's go ahead and post them. I just noticed you are from comerce. I just pulled a 73 out of a garage from your town. It has been sitting since 1978. As a matter of fact it is the car i an installing carpet in.

Re: carpet install? (sdixon)
Yep, I put my rear carpet in during the winter and had to fit and trim. It's ACC carpet too. Guess what, I still need to install the 3-door carpet assembly and glue everything in. The carpet must be relaxed by now.
I put new carpet in mine last summer. It worked out like you have read above. As for the three-section storage door job: Take your three pieces of carpet and mail them to Corvette Central to get them to put those pieces in a new door assembly for you. Saves so much aggravation in trying to get door frames off (which wil be destroyed in taking them off), new ones painted, and installing the new ones over your new carpet. I sent my pieces in (saved the old assembly if ever needed for a full resto) and I couldn't be happier. Price? ~$150 (with your carpet) as I recall. I think CC subs the work out to Corvette America in PA, so you just send it all there if you prefer - I think the price is the same? Good luck!
