This was posted a while back and some of you were talking about getting one. I was just wondering if any of you have, and have it installed yet. This looks great but the $$$$!
I got it in my sights Steve. I am just thinking about the $$$ too. Gerry tells me go for it, but....... :banghead:
I am supposed to be finished with mine, but man this would be awsome. I am considering it too along with side pipes. Never ending project! Gotta love it.
I have a TKO in my 68'.. but I didn't pay by far as much as Keisler wants for them.. Well - they sell the whole kit which is convenient.. but it's a little pricey..
.68:1 (just like the Kiesler), I forget who but there was a forum member who was going to install one of these kits several weeks ago, there was even talk that Kiesler would be sending a tech up there to assist in the install.
Havent heard anything since. I was kinda hoping to see photos and hear how the install went. Of course if it didnt go as advertised, they may not have wanted it mentioned.
The TKO is a great trans for the road, wouldnt consider the gear spacing optimal for drag racing but thats hardly an issue for me. i like the TKO that I installed, did it myself for about $900 cheaper than the kiesler kit.

Yep - the 5th gear is .68.. and I love it..
I actually love the gearing in combination with my 3.73 gears... Well - the gearing isn't all that great if your engine doesn't have good torque.. but it works great for me.. When I shift at 6000 - the RPM drops right to my peak torque... and that's the way it's supposed to be... The first gear is very short so that I was able to get a 1.591 60' time with it... I love the gearing for Drag Racing...

I stand corrected :steering:
BTW I love the gearing too - I just figured the gear spacing wasnt optimal - kinda like the 700r4. My bone stock L-82 doesnt really have any torque, but that deep 1st gear makes launches easy I must admit.
$1745 for the transmission ($1795 - $50 discount because they didn't have a Vette yoke)
$215 for the yoke
$80 for the mounting bracket (from Bowtie overdrives)
$100 for driveshaft shortening and balancing (approx.)
$50 for a hybrid U-joint (1310/1350 series)
-------
$2190
In addition - I spent $350 for a new clutch setup and $600 for the custom installation...

Did you have to modify you driveshaft or did you buy one? Also, was yours a direct bolt on with no mods like Keisler has advertised?

Was this a new trans? Sounds like a much better deal.

Yes, the driveshaft was shortened and a new slip yoke is required, ummmmmmm NO mine was not a direct bolt in as Kiesler advertises.
I had to cut out the crossmember (you could also lift the engine off the mounts to install the tranny and then reinstall it - that would eliminate the need to cut the crossmember - but it will also make clutch work that much more difficult.
CROSSMEMBER MODS.
CROSSMEMBER IN CAR.
That is the difference I'm sure, they have apparently done all the thinking (and swearing) for you. Still havent heard any stories about the Kiesler install, checked the threads on the C1-2 section but there is no news there, apparently they did install one, but absolutely no impressions of the install process and only 1 pict showing the trans. I await a more complete web site.

This sounds like the way to go! A little swearing and thinking don't really bother me.
The Keisler box is looking more and more tempting to me evrey day. I've been keeping up with Viet Nam Vett's posts on it looking for the install specifics. I might try and get a hold of Keisler and see if I can get a copy if the instructions to look over before I commit to buying one.
I called them to find out more about it b/c my father and i are thinking of putting a 5 spd in his 80 but no one ever called back. Maybe i'll try them again.
