I'm replacing my tach in my 72. The face on the original tach looks better that the replacement. So, i want to swap them. How do you remove the needle so the face can be removed. I don't want to damage it. This forum rules! Thanks!
OK, first off, wash your hands/finger VERY well, NO oils.....then grab with index finger and thumb and wedge your finger/thumb tips up under the needle next to the card...IF you have longer fingernails you might want to do a piece of paper next to the compass card....pull UP as hard as you can...
NOT pulling on the needle--oppoisite balance end-tip.....just the middle round section, sometimes it takes a bit of force and gets uncomfortable....
I have done it a LOT...
unfortunately....
have FUN!!!
this is all best done on a kitchen table with good to great lighting...
Assuming yours is the same as my '75, it is press fitted onto the shaft so grasp firmly and pull gently. I found it helped to "rock" the tach needle side to side between my fingers as I pulled.
