My **** comes all the way out of the switch assembly when I pull it to turn lights on - does anybody know if there is a part that is inop or do I need to replace whole switch?
I am a rookie vette owner and can use all the help I can get!!!! :chevy
I know for a fact there is some sort of mechanism that holds the pull-out button in. I replaced my button a while ago and totally forget how it works, but I know that it should not pull completely out. If there is some clip malfunctioning, the switch itself should be ok in terms of it's electrical functionality. I'd try pulling the switch assembly out of the dash and inspect it to see if something looks out of place. If you can't figure anything out, I'll rummage through my box of goodies tomorrow and see if I can find an old switch I had laying around to find out how it works.
Hey Thomas,
There is a small button on the side of the switch that actuates a clip inside to release the ****. Yours is either broken or stuck. You might try removing the **** and spraying some WD40 in the hole, then reach up and work the button in and out several times. This may free it up. If not you'll have to replace the switch. I've probably got a used one if you need.
Good luck, Greg
Thanks for info Greg - there are so many knowledgeable people willing to help a rookie out here in corvetteland! I am almost proud to be part of this group even though I am new at it. But I am sure I will contribute in time as I get more knowledgable. Let me check out the switch, and if I can't get it working I will buy one from you if you have some around.
By the way, I also need to get into my passenger side mirror, but the window is in the way of bolts that hold it on, do you know of any info how to get window out, remember I am new at this and don't want to screw anything up too bad :)
Thanks Matt - I am so delighted on how helpful everyone is within the vette family. I am little frustrated with the actual work, but am learning as I go, but the wealth of information in the "brotherhood" is great!
Greg - turns out the switch is broken (cracked and part missing), did you have spares laying around or should I just order one from a parts house?
Let me know.
