DEMON CARB WARNING!!
Hey All,
I recently purchased a Speed Demon from Summit racing. I received a call from them saying that there may be a problem with Demon junior carbs and possibly all other demon carbs. They said the two screws holding the choke flap on to the carb may come loose and fall into the carb (Demon received several calls on this problem). They said I could send it back or remove the screws and put locktight on them (if I sent it back thats all they would do). Even if you had the carb a while it might be a good idea to do this.

Just to re-assure you folks that the lock-tite trick is "ok"...
When I machine carb throttle bodies for a bushing due to excessive wear, it is necessary to remove the throttle disc's and screws. I try to re-use the original screws because the current replacement screws are a lousy design. So I very carefully machine off only enough metal to allow the screws to be removed without damaging the threads in the throttle shaft. When I'm finished with the job and I re-install the discs & screws, I clean all oil from the screws & shaft, and use thread locking compound (not permanant, but medium grade). I do not re-stake the screws, as they were staked from the factory. I have never had a problem using this method. So... I would consider their "fix" reasonable.

Re: DEMON CARB WARNING!! (mpro72vette)
Another problem I've run into with these is bent throttle plates. On the one I put on a 428 Cobra replica, the engine experienced a back-fire through the carb (timing advance problem since resolved) that bent all 4 aluminum throttle plates! I replaced them with steel plates, but thought I'd pass it along.
Symtom is a very high idle (like 2200 rpm!).

Re: DEMON CARB WARNING!! (Fevre)
I used to be a big fan of these carbs until my brother started having all his problems. I don't know if his is a lemon, or if they just have poor assembly/manufacturing on them all. :skep: :(

It's weird reading these posts about problems when my Demon has been so trouble free. The only thing I have ever even touched since bolting it on was the idle speed.

only thing i dont like about the demons is that they seem to proprietary. Maybe the Holleys are too, but the parts are much cheaper
Thanks for the warning

I had two 750VS breakdown on me. Demon sent me a new 650VS that they say should run better. I haven't tried it yet! The 750s broke internally and leaked gas, big problems! May people love them, I hope mine works.

Re: DEMON CARB WARNING!! (no_radio)
I just bought a new Edel 750 Performer to use for everyday cruising, will put the Holley back on only for 1/4 runs as I have had too many leaking issues with the Holley's over the years.
