I have asked this before but it has been a while so since we have a lot of new members I thought I would ask again. Who did your windsheild replacement? Were you happy with them? Any pitfalls? Safelite quoted me a price to come out and put a new WS in my car for $190. Anyone used them before? Were you happy? My WS has been rmoved for about a year and a half now because of some frame rot I had to deal with. I don't have the old WS anymore and I don't remember there being any shims.
I had a mobile glass guy remove my old one, gave me a month or so to prep the frame, then came back and installed the new one. $100 for glass, $65.00 for labor. This included the remove and replacement of the trim around the windshield that had to come off, the new seal kit, everyting.
I've had a small local company come to my house and remove/install the windshield. I think they only charged 40 bucks in labor plus the glass, you cant beat that! They did a very good job and were very carfull yet quick. Only took them about 20 mins.
Check your phonebook, there should be several qualified people in your area.
Last fall mine replaced by a mobile guy also - happened to be Carter Hartwig, former Houston Oiler wide receiver. Thought that guy looked to be in shape!
I would call around to body shops in you area and ask who they would refer you to. I like to stick to the smaller guys thats been around for a while, they tend to do a better job, then a big name company.
I agree with every one else. Use a local independent. I had mine replaced by a local and they did a great job. They took off the trim....gave them to me so I could paint them. I returned them the next morning and I had my car a few hours later. New windshield and nice new-looking trim. Best of all....insurance paid for it all!
