I don't know about you guys .... but I'd like to shoot the "accessory engineer" for my 75
I have to remove my p.s. belt to check the fluid level. Anyone else have this problem or do I have a unique alternator bracket that blocks my p.s. cap??
Re: rackafrackin' power steering pump... (77Dream)
Comes out fairly easily on my 77. Could you have belts that are shorter than original that is pulling the pump up into the bracket/alternator above it?

As far as I can tell the belts come in 2 sizes ....
1) too short, cannot remove p.s. cap as it hits alternator bracket
2) too long, either squeels or allows p.s. pump to contact with parts it should not make contact with.
75Rag, There must be another one cause mine does neither of these things. Now it leaks like crazy, but that is another story and hopefully something I will get around to fixing in the next couple of weeks.
I have the same problem. Powersteering was an afterthought on these cars, and the PS pump was an afterthought on these engines. It had to go somewhere, so they stuck it under the alternator.
I had thought about brazing a sight glass (tube) on to the side of the PS pump so you could check the level and fill the tank without a lot of trouble. Now I plan to run a Steeroids in a manual steering mode, this will eliminate the pump altogether.
With one of the  MARCH alternator brackets, I don't think you can even remove the cap on the PS unit.
You might also consider a somewhat longer PS pump belt. This would allow you to tilt the pump over on its side, thus reducing the interference with the alternator bracket.

Re: rackafrackin' power steering pump... (mapman)
On my 1980 with all the stock brackets, the power steering cap just barely comes off. It hits the bottom of that big azz alternator and you have to aim it just right to get it back on.
For a car that is as long as my pickup truck, there sure is no room for anything.
Re: rackafrackin' power steering pump... (isosceles)
On my 79 it's easier to take the alternator out. 2 bolts. But still, just to check fluid? I agree! Who deesigned THAT!?!
On my 68 it is difficult, but not impossible to check the p/s fluid. When I had the alt off I noticed how easy it was to access the p/s cap, and I JOKED about removing the alternator to check the p/s fluid... then I learn that some guys actually do just that!!! MJ
