Default MT ET Streets question...

I've asked in the Drag Racing section.. but haven't found anybody that uses this combo...so I'm asking here:

Is it possible to put 28 x 12.50-15 ET Streets on a 15 x 8.5 inch rim???
The Mickey Thompson site says that a 10 inch wide rim is required.. but there's a guy locally that told me that he is using those tires on 15 x 8 Rally Wheels... and that there shouldn't be a problem with 15 x 8.5 inch rims...
Will this combination work without a problem?? If yes - why does the MT site say that 15 x 10 inch rims are required...

Those should work ok, They say 10" since that is the optimal width.. you will have a little more side flap with 8.5" rims..

I ran 28x11.5 et streets on 8 inch wheels and they fit very good. I tried some 28x10.5 et drags..which are the same width as the 28x12.5 et street...on the same 8" rims and has some of the tire(about 1/4" on both sides) was not making contact with the pavement..even at 13 psi. YOu can run them no doubt but you may not get any more contact patch than you would with the 28x11.5s if they are rolling on the rim. One thing to consider is the tire hight. The 28x12.5s are true 28" tires..in fact I think they are rated at 28.1 on a 10" rim. Put them on a smaller rim and they will grow more than that on top end..killing more gear. The 28x11.5s are rated at 27.6 I believe on a 8 inch rim. Just food for thought. I don't want you to go just for the bigger tire for the 1" in width but loose too much gear and actually slow down.

I ran 28 x 12.50 x 15 ET streets on a set of centerline autodrags for years. The rims were 8.5 inches wide. I did find that passing cars on the street was a little spooky because of sway. I think Shane found the same thing passing.

Well - I'm not planning to run them on the street.. just on the track...

Norval:
You are right. I run the 28x11.5x15 ET Streets everywhere I go. Pulling out to pass a car can be a "white knuckled" experience. They do sway a bit whenever passing. However whenever I nail the gas they are hooked up solid. If you decide to run them on the street, you don't even need a burnout. A little road heat and they bite hard.
