My buddy has his car at the same shop rebuilding his t-56 and while was there asked how mine was coming along and he said its almost done. With that, he called me and told me and I ran down there real quick to take a look see.
From inside the car, it looked as stock as it gets. Re-used my shifter handle and **** so I couldnt even tell. I took a look from under neath the car (unfortunately it wasnt on the lift) but it looked like it came out great. The only thing that it needs it a u-joint.
So here is my problem. They said the u-joint that I supplied them was incorrect and were just waiting on one that they ordered and "think" should be the right one  I took the part # from one of GrandSportC3's posts and I think a few other guys backed it up. Can anyone tell me what u-joint i will need in case they dont get it right? I have a '74 Coupe, and it had a m-21 trans in it, dont know about the yoke. Now it is a Tremec TKO with a mark williams ford c6 take apart yoke 1350 style u-joint. It was my understanding the original driveshaft needed a 1310 on the driveshaft side. This would require me to get a hybrid u-joint and I thought it was part# 5-460X for Spicer. So i got that from the local Napa and the shop told me today that it wasnt right, but that the 1310/1350 configuration is right, but one end wasnt long enough or something along those lines. Its definitely the 1310 (original driveshaft side) cause I handfitted the 1350 side to the yoke and it fit fine. Can anyone fill me in?
Other than that, I hope they did order the correct u-joint cause they said I can pick it up tomorrow if its the right one! I can't wait to get out there and try it out!! What is the break in procedure? I didnt get any instructions with the trans.
Break in procedure, Proceed to your local drag strip and see how fast you can go.  That sounds great. I can't wait to see this and how it drives. That is a future project for mine.
Gordon....whats up man....u need to get out to some races this year :yesnod: not like i have been either tho LoL
You should definitely consider picking one up.
Quickvet, better watch out now....i may be gaining some ground in the ET on ya. :D
Looks like GM changed U-joints during the C3 era. You need a 1350/1330 U-joint. I had the same problem. Got the U-joint GS used and wouldn't work. Got a 1350/1330 and it worked fine.
Chris, Had my car out once. The race at Atco and that was the last time I have been out. The weather has been terrible. Summer coming on now so I'll be beach bound most of the time, if the weather ever gets warm.
I love the tranny. It loosened up after 2-300 miles and shifts like butter now. Only negative thing I can find is a slight vibe in 4th over 1700 rpm. Goes away in 5th. It is slight, though.
I really like the gear ratios.
Didn't do anything special for break-in, except drive easy for 400 miles, and then change the fluid.

Well - the 5-460X was the U-joint that I was told that is the right one.. I gave this part number to my mechanic.... It might be possible that he didn't use that one because it didn't fit and he used another one.. If this is the case.. he never told me about... I didn't do the install myself.. so I couldn't verify the information first hand...

:D :D :D Well - my new project (which will start after selling the 68' - probably late '03 to early '04) will be much faster than the 68'.. I'm planning to get a 69' coupe and make it a 9 to 10 second street legal race car that makes wheelies :D :D :D...
