Assembly lube under head bolt washers?
I remember reading that somewhere to avoid the head bolt washer from digging into the aluminum head when you're torquing them?

The use of the washers will help protect the aluminum,,it's w/o use of washers on aluminum that will cause some damage.
Have you looked to verify that all the longer head bolts are the same lenght ? If not,the four that are approximatley3/8 of an inch shorter should go at the ends up high and under the valve cover like early models,,just depends on if they were made that way or the supplier of the bolts.

Thanks Curtis. I haven't checked the bolt length yet. Just got the aluminum head bolt set from GM yesterday.
