Hi does anyone have a trick for getting the second nut off the outside door handle on my 72? they are kind of hard to get to -- better yet how do you get them back on THANKS
Your best bet is to find a 10 year old neighborhood kid to do it for you. And while he's there helping, get him to work on your fuse box up under the dash.
10 year olds are the only ones that can get their little hands into these spots...
Offer him a ride, and I'm sure he will work at a discounted rate.
I did this not too long ago and I had to get my wife to do it to the first one. On the second one we decided to remove the water sheild and unscrew the latching mechanism so it will drop down about 2 inches...that gives you a little more room. Try this link...maybe it will help:
I know this sounds a little bizzare but it works... Put the nut on the end of your finger with super glue to get it started. I have a short cut off 7/16 wrench I made just for that job. Those handle can de a real pain.
Just finished putting my passenger door back together last night. I removed the door latch to get the nuts off and back on. Just remove the three screws holding the door latch and slide it down inside the door. I had the window down as it gave me more room. It still takes patience to get the back nut on. I had my son insert the door handle into the door just so the threaded stud was inside the door and I started the nut. Lowered the handle into the door, make certain the door handle gasket is placed correctly, and installed the front nut and tightened both nuts down.

To get it back on I used a magnetic extension and a few choice cuss words. :cuss I sounded like the father in The Christmas Story. Good thing I work alone.
Funny I was afraid to post this because i didnt want to sound like a dummy but I guess it is a difficult job. I have a corvette sitting right next to it that I already did the job about 13 years ago but I CRS so THANK YOU for the help
