Just curious if anyone has an engine test stand. I've been "assigned" the job of designing one by my dad. Some pictures would be nice. I did find a place that sells them (for $650... overpriced) right in my city, which is very strange. So I might stop over there and look at what they have.
I have seen the lightweight "store-bought" versions, they look simple to build. You could save money and have fun building one yourself, just know up front that somehow these projects always seem to take longer than anticipated.
Do you have access to a welder, torch, chop saw, etc.?
I would use 2"x2" steel tubing for the basic frame work. It's inexpensive and really easy to work with. The actual location and angle for the engine mounts could be made based on measurements from the car frame.
A set of cheap gauges (temp, and oil press), small fuel tank, flexible exhaust tubing, automotive battery, ignition switch, etc., and your set.
You could either mount a radiator w/electric fan or rig up a garden hose connection to supply engine cooling.
Please post pictures of your finished product.
Miker, I know, that is my plan, we are going to build it, but you still have to check out the price of the thing you are going to build to see if it is more feasible to buy than to make, and in this case it is not, which is what I was saying.
Send me the plans......CAPELOUTL001@HAWAII.RR.COM I was going to use the frame they sent my crate engine on.....it's solid angle iron with motor mounts....I'm not sure about the ignition hook up....or if the torque will snap the engine over off the legs.....Also I have no way of placing a load on it....Afraid I may over-rev..... :flag :seeya Cappy
