I was trying to find a way to have sidepipes on my car with out using hooker reverse flow mufflers which I heard were bad for performance. This is what I found. http://www.carchemistry.com/ccinserts.html
I would get the flanged inserts that bolt up to the headers. Then run straight pipes along the side of my car like sidepipes. Is this a good idea or are there flaws. Any input would be appreciated. :smash:

I am trying to decide if long tube headers would work. I was initually going to use Dynomax Cermamic Coated Headers but now I dont know. I might go with a shorty style header so I wont have to use U bend pipes. Anyone have any ideas?
I had thought long and hard about using these. You would not want to use the 4" ones, though, as they would be too big and not reduce sound much, if any.
I was going to get some 2.5" or 3" pipe and weld these in. I'd also weld some end caps to this pipe so they would slide in just like the Hooker mufflers. I decided not to go this route as I've read that when the engine is cold (ie startup), it is considerable louder than when it heats up. I still don't understand why or how, but I ended up building some 2.5" perferated core glasspacks with the original Hooker glasspack end pieces for the install.
I heard on this forum that the car chemistry inserts did almost nothing vs open pipes. IMO, the JCL inserts are too modest in sound. Mine have a deep mellow tone at idle and cruise but sound awesome at WOT. If you want info on my setup in my sig, IM or email me.
