Default Looking to purchase 1st C3

I have an itch and looking for a 68-72 convertible. I currently have a 99 that I modded with a 427LS1. If anyone can give me pointers/advice as to what to look/look out for I would definitely appreciate.
Also: what is the birdcage?
Are the 68-72s ok to be somewhat daily drivers? I know it probably depends on condition.. How much does it matter to not be matching #'s (non original motor) ?
thanks for any help you can give me.

Birdcage : noun; part of (or pertaining to) the usually rusted steel body
reinforcement that surrounds the passenger compartment in a Corvette.
This includes areas such as the windshield frame, rocker channels, roof bow,
and door pillars (front and rear).

Check out the rusted out birdcage in my website (corvette stuff/ 75 pics).
My sig picture shows the front of the birdcage after restoration (70 - not 75).

Rust is your greatest villan in regards to a C3. NJ ? pretty rusty area.
Removal of the kick panels can reveal much about the condition of the BC.
Also, there are two panels in front of the rear wheels. Unscrewing these will
provide access to the rear of the rocker channels, too. The windshield frame
can be inspected through the glass and under the dash.

Now, you didn't ask about a rusted frame - but I have some nasty pics of that
in my 75 pics, too. Go have a look for trouble areas - but do not eat for one
hour before visiting that area of my web. :U

Good luck - :seeya

:iagree: Your right on his door step, go see what he has. They were daily drivers at one time. Many still use them for daily transportation. A 427 LS1 now thats a  car.
