Default headlight hinge pin fix...cheap!

The casting around the pins had spread out a bit, allowing the headlights to shake around much more than a simple worn bushing would. I had tried in the past redrilling the casting and slipping in a very slightly bigger pin, but it was still a bit loose, so I came up with this....

It's pretty simple and rock solid. I used 3 inch long .5 inch bolts. I ground through the casting with a dremmel tool so the pin could go all the way through. I timmed both ends of the bolt to the length I needed and used jam nuts with a lot of locktite to secure the pin to the frame. On the one side I ground down the nut a bit to give a little more wiggle room. I also ground down the bushing for the same reason. Then just put it back together. Now when the lights are up, the are very solid.

Cheers
Chris

Cool. I've done some pretty extreme re-work to my assemblies.
However, I've been too busy to edit/post the pics.
I needed to replace the front bolt that hold the linkage to the cover, one
of the front mounting ears, and redo one of the positive stop bars that
bolt to the cover. I use either aluminum or stainless now. No more rusty steel
with the cast parts.

Good job !! - and saved yourself $150.
