they are the same a 1966 427 425/450 HP corvette engine except the displacement is 454 cu in instead of 427. the big difference was the 454 LS-6 use a sunken type intake manifold to fit under the hood of a corvette instead of a high rise like the 427. i had one of these engine in my new 1970 454 chevelle and i changed the intake to the high rise type. this engine was the std engine in the 1970 454 chevelle SS. try google and type in 1970 454 chevelle and see what happens. :chevy

Let me clarify. I do not have an origional LS6 but a GM performanc LS6 crate engine installed somewhere in the mid eightys. It has been discontinued and replaced by the Gen VI 454 HO. Im looking on formation on the crate engine.

i think it is still the same engine. GM also sold LS-7 454 which was a 12.5:1 compression with a L-88 cam and open chamber cast iron heads. post the casting number on the intake, the left bellhousing flange and cylinder heads and we can go from there. :chevy

The Block casting number is: 14015445
The Intake casting number is: 3963569
Heads are cast iron, rectangular port but I cannot locate the number.

Conway, my buddy and I are in the process of putting one of those in a 71 Z28. He bought his in 88. GM was advertizing that they still had LS6 454's and was selling them at bargain prices. His is listed as 450 horsepower and 500 ft.lbs. torque. GM said the only difference between them and the production engines installed in vehicles on the assembly line was a hydrolic cam instead of solids. However, his engine has solids and it does put out the power.. He still has his original bill of sale, but he will have to hunt for the spec. sheet on it. I will post them as soon as he finds them. It does have the intake which at the time was called a medium rise manifold. He used his in a 66 Chevelle for 10 years ( still less than 10,000 miles on it ) and now will move that Z along real good. Hope this helps. Hershey :chevy

the intake is the "low rise" type used on the 70 454 SS chevelle these engine were quick as my 70 454 chevelle with open headers would run 12.70s :chevy
