I am missing only two things from my 73, T-Top storage bags and the owners manual. I am looking for storage bags at some parts sites. They come in all type of colors. My interior is Dark Saddle and Bright Yellow exterior. Do I match the bags with the interior or just go with the basic black bag??? Pics coming soon :) Later
Dang battsup! I wish I knew that before I bought mine. I thought they were all color coordinating so I spent the extra money for the silver. Oh Well!
Yes, the topic has come up before.. Some years were interior color matched. Others were black. I don't remember what years were black though. I have the originals for my Brite blue interior 69 and they are brite blue. They have the date stamping inside.
I ran this by the NCRS folks and here is what I can tell you. All C3's (pre-73) were delivered with color coordinated T-Top bags at the beginning of each production year. As suppies ran out Black was substituted until the end of the year run.
So, you can go either way here. Personal preference, or dollars will dictate.
I have my oringinals and they are black, as is the interior. I would go for the color coordinated myself, just to keep everything uniform. Hope this helps.
i know this is a little off subject, but i was thinking about this the other day, i dont have the storage bags, but i see some straps in the back, i assume this is to secure the bags? is this a simple proceedurs that will become self evident when i get the bags? or is there a special proceedure
thanks

Gregg,
That's not quite what Reba and Lyle said. Reba specified PRE-73 cars have been seen with coloured bags. Although the 73-74 judging guide says coloured bags are OK, (giving benefit of the doubt while the issue is open), Lyle has never seen any '73s with coloured bags. I've looked at lots of 73's and '74's and never seen anything but black also.
The question is still unanswered for later C3s.
In any case, the repo bags are easy to tell from originals and will get you a deduct.
I'd like to see coloured bags with a date stamp later than July 1972. Anybody? :chevy

Thanks for the correction, I have amended my previous post to reflect same.
I would still purchase the color coordinated bags for uniformity, unless you intend to venture into the scrutiny of the NCRS. If you are restoring the car to spec, buy the black ones, they (NCRS) most likely will not question this, as it appears they don't know either, (POST-72) that is. :D
A repo bag will not have a date code at all, or will have a code that's after the build date of the car. This will be an easy give away that's it's not an original bag, in addition to any other physical differences.
I don't know about your car... but I have an '81. There are two straps that sort of form a triangle, with a single strap coming off the tip. The tip has a little hook on it, which attaches to a small metal bar right between the two seats in the back area. The strip is to simply hold the tops in place as you're driving around. The strap is adjustable I believe, so it could also hold luggage.

They/we're (NCRS) not that clueless you know!
Mike ,
You are correct, however, it does not appear to me he is after a date coded set of bags, or has any intention of having his car judged by the NCRS. It sounded to me as if he was just trying to have the correct color.
Well it appears the correct color is black, date coded oringinal, or after market.
I think maybe he should speak up here and tell us his intentions not your's :D
I was thinking of matching the bags with the inter. It is Dark Saddle. I have seen some sites that have this as a bag color and Brown as a bag color. Then I got thinking is the Dark Saddle or Brown going to match my inter. or is it going to be way off. You say brown and you can get different shades. You say Black and you pretty much know what your getting. I talked to the last owner and he said the car won car show awards and people choice awards. I also had a past corvette club pres. go over the car. He said just a few minor things need to be worked on if I want it to be judged. I don't know anything about the judging process. Everything is orig. on this car, #'s heck even the driver side door panel sticker is in great shape. I will post a pic of it (and the car once I find a site to post pics at) For right now the car is a driver (buy stock in Mobil, since I seem to gas up every other day haha) and show it off at small car shows. I am thinking of one day getting it judged. So I guess I should get two sets of bags  one black and try to find orig.

The straps are to secure the T-Tops inside the car (with or without the bags). There is nothing in or on the bags that relate to the straps. The bags mearly protect the tops.
My car didn't come with bags. I bought a set of original type black bags and found that they are a really tight fit. I returned them and bought the aftermarket type with Velcor closure and fleece lining. I like them a LOT better.
Of course, there's always the luggage rack carrier option...
Some people have posted that they have "dated" bags. Will that date be just the month and year the Corvette rolled off the line or just a simple month/date/yr that they "threw" it in the car???

Neither, it's the day that the bag was made, might be up to a year before the car was made. Generally the date is six months or less before the car was made, never after.

:iagree: The original bags are pretty lousy. My wife makes some terrific bags for our Corvettes out of polar fleece with a velcrow lip. Much softer/safer and roomier than original bags.
