Quick question about removing tranny and engine. Is it possible to remove the tranny in my garage with only jackstands, a jack and a creeper, or would it be to heavy to drop onto the creeper and slid it from under the car? I was thinking of undoing the bolts that hold it to the engine, holding it up with a jack, then undoing the tranny crossmember then lowing the jack until it sits on the creeper then pull it out. Is that possible or should i remove the engine and tranny together? I would like to remove the tranny first if possible so i don't have to rip half the suspention apart to get them out together.
P.S. it's for a 71 dart swinger i just got. SOrry its not a corvette question, but the same would apply :D
No problem getting the transmission down with just the car on jackstands. Just make sure the jack is at the balance point and lower it down. I just grabbed a hold and dragged mine out from underneath after I thunked it off the jack.
It is a piece of cake. I was able to get mine back in by myself even. It is not really that heavy. Just get your car nice and high off the ground on blocks so that you can really get around it.
Don't forget to stop up the hole where you pulled out the dipstick. A cork or something there will prevent a mess.
Justin, a T400 is a moose and just clears with bottom of the car on stands and REAL high up. Don't know what the Dart has in it. Drain the beast first, is makes a real mess when you lower it in the back - I know.
