Default header numbers...Please run...

I had an original thread inquiring on finding out what motor I have. It was suggested I get the numbers off the head and a different number from the block. So here are all the numbers I found

Heads = GM35, 3827186, 1 16 8

Motor = T21 CONVT, J 18 8, GM 3932388

I am trying to figure out it I have the L46 or plan 350, the only number on the front of the block that I could see was 388, no other numbers were stamped anywere. What I know is it is a 69 350 block 4 bolt main.

:cheers:

The block and heads are the correct casting numbers , now you need to find the number stamped into the machined pad on the front of the block just in front of the passenger's side head. You may have to scrape away paint but it should be there. Also... what is the red line on you tach? that will give you another way to know which engine you have.

If the Headers and block casting match for a L46 (350/350), I am very happy.:hurray:

Thank You, bluevetteman for running the numbers :cheers:

The tach red lines at 6,000 but this motor was replaced with the very first owner. I am owner #3, #2 is my stepdad so I know what he did since '74.

I do know the car came with the 350/350 stock (L46), thus one of the reasons I am trying to make sure that is the motor I have.

I can not see any numbers on the block, so I am assuming they have been painted over quite well.

If someone could show me a pic of exactly where the numbers would be, I could muster up the strength to scrap off the wounderful orange paint.

Keystone Klassic wheels, haven't seen those in some time now.

They look very :cool: with all the chrome from the sidepipes and bumpers.

Nice looking car !

Since you know that the car was a 350/350 and the block numbers and dates seem correct and the red line on the tach is correct, most likely the engine and heads are the original. It may have been machinedin a rebuild process. This is called "Decking" and usually removes the stamped in numbers.
Do a search for Juliet. Go to her web page, click on 70 restoration project then find the photo library and go to mechanical. There are a few pictures of the stamping area and samples of the stampings.
