i keep breaking engine mounts so i was think thinking about putting in solid mounts. the only thing i was wondering about is can i just put on a drivers side solid mount or do i have to do both side solid mounts and a solid transmission mount thanks in advance
:flag
i run both solids in my car and a regular trans mount, ive run solid trans mounts and broke the trans. case.I guess you could run the one solid on the load side and rubber on the other i cant see why it would hurt.another guy from cape coral, weve got a few on here, thats my favorite spot to vacation, ill retire there in 20 years.
just wondering but why would you break your transmission case if you had all solid mounts. and if i ran all soild engine mounts and a rubber trans mount wouldnt i break the trans mount all the time. (PATSNITROVETTE)-ya cape coral is great until it rains for a week straight and you just about float out the front door
i feel a alittle bit of vibration but not much ,i dont mind them at all really, alot of guys say it vibrates the whole car i dont think so,ive used solids since 87 when i first started building cars.i had a motor mount break in my first car 69 camaro rs ss pace car convertible throttle stuck and almost totaled it,never again did i take a chance,i had a 406 solid lift cam 3500 stall 3.90 and 4.56 gears in it.
All things considered, solid mounts allow more vibrations through the car. The more radical the engine to more vibration.
why put solid ones in?
Solid mounts are stonger since the motor is bolted directly to the frame. With a rubber mount, the rubber absorbs the vibration but you run the risk of tearing the rubber. The best of both worlds would be a poly "locking" mount. It abosorbs the vibration yet adds a safty net if the mount goes to break.
I've got solids on my Chevy II, and the engine sits real nice and still looks like it runs very smooth......get in the car though, and instead of the engine shaking, the whole car shakes!!!!!!

I am running a poly mount on the driver side and rubber on the passenger side. Pretty much feels the same as with rubber/rubber, bet solid/rubber combo would be about the same. Don't run a solid trans mount with anything other than solid mounts or you will tear the trans.
Have you tried Energy Suspension Polyeurathane mounts? I got em and they hold the engine well. Its hardly moves under TQ and they still provide great vibe dampining. Ive not yet heard of anyone breaking one of these aftermarket poly mounts. Thats not to say it hasnt or couldnt happen though.
I'm running Moroso solid motor mounts and a Moroso solid tranny mount. You do notice a good bit of vibration in the car, but I personally think it adds to the driving experience of the car :) . Not to mention I never have to worry about busting one. You should also note that solid mounts are great in drag racing applications for consistancy sake. I also like the idea that I paid $20 for my solid motor mounts and $20 for the tranny mount.
alright guys thanks for all the advice i think i will just go with all solid mounts and be done with it. but as of last night i tlooks like i will be outting a new crank in it. the harmonic balancer cracked again which wollard out the harmonic balancer key way aww well just venting thanks everyone
