Re: LINE LOCKS ARE COOL!!! (69 N.O.X. RATT)
How, exactly, does a line lock work? DOes it just do the same thing as a "brake stand" doe sin an automatic?

Re: LINE LOCKS ARE COOL!!! (Mystery Machine)
A line lock (or roll control as they're sometime called) consists of an electrical solenoid that's plumbed into the brake system downstream from the proportioning valve or distribution block or pressure differential switch.
Once it's installed you hit and hold the brake pedal, press and hold a button in the cockpit and then release the pedal. At that point the brakes on the side of the brake system with the line lock installed are locked, but the others aren't.
They are commonly installed on the front brakes of a car for drag racing. Lock the front wheels and then do your burnout with the rears. This way you don't wear our your rear brake pads doing what you call a brake stand in the burnout box--you just let go of the button and the front brakes release and off you go.
You could install TWO line locks in your drag car to lock all four brakes to hold you at the starting line while you bring the RPMs up. Then, of course you would launch the car by simultaneously releasing the line lock button and stabbing the throttle. (Sort of a poor man's trans brake.)
You can also use a line lock on a tow vehicle or RV to hold you on hills, etc.
Pretty useful little gadgets, really.
[EDIT: For typos.]
