Default Water Pump / Bracket & Pulley Question

I understand that the stock setup on a BB 73 was a short water pump.

But, can a long water pump be used on a BB 73, or will this put the fan too close to the radiator?

Reason for asking?

I have the opportunity to buy a complete set of BBC brackets and pulleys that are from a vehicle with a long water pump...so there is no issue on mixing short/laong parts here. Just need to know if the long water pump matched parts will work or not on my 73.

Thanks!!

Dave

I can't believe the long pump will fit and still retain the original fan shroud and fan. It might fit if you install twin electric fans and billet pulleys, then have no fan on the pump. I just worked on a 71 (454) and there is very little room between the radiator and fan blade. My guess is even with the electric fans things will be very tight.

I had a feeling that was going to be the case.

Thanks, Big Fish!

Flex fan might work with that combo, it sits flush with the pump pulley. I used a 2 inch spacer with one before I switched to twin elec fans.

Something about the crank pulley hitting the crossmember has been mentioned in regard to running LWP on BB C3's. Someone mentioned using a large hammer to rectify the situation????
