Electric superchargers rock, man. I hear you can REALLY increase their effectiveness if you also install one of those "tornado" air swirler things at the same time. And, you can really make some power if you run Prolong in your engine, too.
Ok so I am a n00b.. I heard about these also awhile ago and was like "man this could be awesome!" til i did a little digging
turns out people take these things off of the fan motors of trailer bathrooms etc at public parks... they use them for ventilation and figure hey.. they look like a turbo and push air.. i bet we can scam some money for them!!! they as everyone else have said are a bs item.. don't buy! :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs :bs
It would take a rather large electric motor to provide the same boost as a engine driven blower. I belive a supercharger is a positive displacement type pump as well.
The ones I have seen on ebay are typically used on ski boats to blow air into the engine compartment to displace gas fumes.
It would seem that a higher CFM version of this would have some benefit at lower rpm when engine demands for air are low. But that's not when you need more air.
You would be using the alternator to generate electricity to run the fan to force air into the engine to generate HP to move the car and run the alternator. You can't get something for nothing so losses in this sequence will not be a net positive.
You might be able to run this fan from a battery that is not powered by the alternator and get a bit more power from the engine but your are really just importing one form of power and converting it to another.
Ah ha - the electric money waster...havent seen one of those in awhile. It looks like a squirrel cage fan with a plastic turbo housing....its not rice, most ricers are smarter than that - LOL
I once had a video of an electric supercharger. No claims on effectiveness but when turned on it produced enough thrust to lift off. It had no way of stabilizing so it didn't hang like a helium baloon but it was neat to watch. Sounded like a dustbuster on crack. (was a different design than this)
PIECE OF CRAP!!!! I read a big thing on this and listened to stories about these on a national AM radio show, Tom Martino. These are made from blower motors on boats. A blower motor on a boat is only good for pushing out fumes, don't waste your money.
